Greg Hughes is
one of the three principals who established Advocate Consulting
Group. Greg started his 22-year career with ITT Life as a sales
representative, after gaining valuable sales experience in the life
insurance field, Greg moved on to Humana for a better understanding
of the health industry. In 1986 Greg was hired as the State wide
manager in Florida for Fortis Benefits, he over saw a 32-million
dollar block of medical and non-medical business as well as four
sales and fourteen support personnel. Greg was instrumental in
bringing the United States Elite Athlete group to Fortis Benefits in
1992. Greg was president of the field advisory committee and
compensation committee during his employment with Fortis.
In today’s
volatile insurance industry, Greg’s service acumen separates him
from his competition. His unique background allows him the insight
in how to effectively work on behalf of his clients in rates, plan
design, negotiation and problem solving. Greg does not believe that
price is the most important part of insurance, but he does believe
in value and value added. Greg’s experience includes working with
employer groups of 2 to 8,000 employees and he is considered a
knowledgeable leader in his field.
Greg grew up
in Houston Texas and spent the first 20 years of his life there.
Greg was a four-sport letterman in High School and played on two
State Championship Baseball teams. Greg was drafted by the
Cincinnati Reds in 1977 and started his professional baseball
career. He has worked with the youth baseball programs in his new
hometown of Tampa Florida since 1983. He also enjoys golf, cooking,
creative writing and outdoor sports. Greg has lived in Tampa since
1982 and has two children, Jennifer and Gregory.
